Preferential filtering for gravity anomaly separation
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present the preferential filtering method for gravity anomaly separation based on Green equivalent-layer concept and Wiener filter. Compared to the conventional upward continuation and the preferential continuation, the preferential filtering method has the advantage of no requirement of continuation height. The method was tested both on the synthetic gravity data of a model of multiple rectangular prisms and on the real gravity data from a magnetite area in Jilin Province, China. The results show that the preferential filtering method produced better separation of gravity anomaly than both the conventional low-pass filtering and the upward continuation. & 2012 Elsevier Ltd. Preferential Filtering and Gravity Anomaly Seperation Using Gravity
Introduction: Understanding the lunar gravity field can provide fundamental information about lunar internal structure, bulk composition, heat flow, and the duration of volcanism and tectonism. We aim to utilize the gravity field from the Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory (GRAIL) mission to reconstruct the history of lunar volcanic history. The high-resolution GRAIL gravity maps show tha...
متن کاملSubsurface modeling of mud volcanoes, using density model and analysis of seismic velocity
Detection of subsurface structures by means of gravity method can be used to determine mass distribution and density contrast of rock units. This distribution could be detected by different geophysical methods, especially gravity method. However, gravity techniques have some drawbacks and can't be always successful in distinguishing subsurface structures. Performance of the gravity technique co...
متن کاملGravity Anomalies in the Apollinaris Patera Area: a Study of Filtering in Spherical Harmonic Models
Recently, the new Goddard Mars Model 2B was released for general use, which provides the most accurate model of the Martian gravity field to date: up to order and degree 80. This paper presents a brief study of the gravity anomalies associated with the Apollinaris Patera area on Mars (an ancient volcanic structure), with an emphasis on the ways in which different filtering techniques in the sph...
متن کاملFault Strike Detection Using Satellite Gravity Data Decomposition by Discrete Wavelets: A Case Study from Iran
Estimating the gravity anomaly causative bodies boundary can facilitate the gravity field interpretation. In this paper, 2D discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is employed as a method to delineate the boundary of the gravity anomaly sources. Hence, the GRACE’ satellite gravity data is decomposed using DWT. DWT decomposites a single approximation coefficients into four distinct components: the appr...
متن کاملGeological noise removal in geophysical magnetic survey to detect unexploded ordnance based on image filtering
This paper describes the application of three straightforward image-based filtering methods to remove the geological noise effect which masks unexploded ordnances (UXOs) magnetic signals in geophysical surveys. Three image filters comprising of mean, median and Wiener are used to enhance the location of probable UXOs when they are embedded in a dominant background geological noise. The study ar...
